SHOW NOTES

• This was SOAD’s first show ever.
• According to Andy: “When I found out that we were having our first show, I came up with the idea to hold up a white cloth banner with some writing spray-painted on it right before we started playing the set. I hadn’t told any of the guys that I was going to do it so it would be a surprise for them as well. Shavo had come up with the idea to open up the show with some traditional Armenian chant. The lights dimmed in the club and I stepped out in front of my drums and spread open the banner with both hands as wide as possible. The light technician put a spotlight on the banner and it read: 1915 1.5 million always remembered. I think I made my point that night. I remember the guys telling me how much they were moved by it. The banner was a bit youthful and raw in its presentation, but honest nonetheless.”
• According to Shavo: “It was May 28, 1995. It was a Sunday night, they didn’t know what we sounded like because we didn’t have a demo tape so they put us on a ska night with six ska bands. We brought a huge following of our friends. We sold 150 tickets and the venue owners tripped out. When we went on stage chaos broke out, there were people hanging from the rafters, there was a pit. My dad was there filming it. After that it was very easy for us to get shows. No one asked us for a demo, no one asked to sell tickets, they just booked us.”
